Amy Wills spotted this 7x7 pictured above at approximately 800 yards. She used a 300 Winchester Magnum then helped her husband pack it out of the mountains near Young, Arizona.

I remember my son telling me on one of his first elk hunts, "Dad, I hope I can find a woman someday that will come with me to a place like this." We were sitting on top of a mountain in Wyoming eating a sack lunch with our horses hobbled behind us while glassing for elk.

It's one of every man's dreams, to find a beauty that will share the adventure. One who will journey with him.

Proverbs 31:10-11 goes on to say, "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her  and lacks nothing of value," (NIV)
I know I am where I am today because of the prayers of my Mother. Thank you Mom, you excelled them all. I thrive where I am today because my beautiful wife loves the Lord, prays for me, and wants what the Lord wants for me. She is now the role model for our children and grandchildren.

Ephesians 5:2 says, "Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that," (MSG). Today is Mother's Day! Think, how can you be extravagant? Buy her a camera and tell her you need a photographer on your next adventure. Speak her love language. Camo underwear is outdated. Believe me they're communicating, if we're listening.

Thoughts
Tools and gadgets are part of outdoor fun. We all have a bag, a vest, a tackle box, or maybe even a garage full of them! They make outdoor times more productive and enjoyable. 
 
Going through catalogs helps get us through times of "cabin fever" between seasons. We all know that there are specialty tools with a specific purpose and function. If we need a certain job done, we must have that particular tool to do it. 
 
Outdoor shows feature myriad varieties of such tools; and part of the enjoyment in attending these shows is to learn about the new ones, and to purchase what we need.

Action Point
Our bodies are tools. We choose if they are tools for good or tools for sinning. Certainly these influences - good or bad - may be upon ourselves or others. 

God has specific functions for each of us. We are intentionally constructed for His purposes. He invites us to join Him in His work here in this world to accomplish unique things for His glory. 
 
He rewards and disciplines us for what we do, whether we choose to do good or to use our bodies for evil.  "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad," II Corinthians 5:10(NKJV). But His intent is for us to use our bodies as tools to accomplish good as He defines it. 
 
I choose to use my body for good and for His glory. Which purpose will you choose? Will you choose to use your body as a tool for good or for sinning?

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Carry the right tools when afield. A knife, a saw, fire making equipment, signaling devices, first aid kits, and other implements are needed at different times. Folding style multi-tools are made by many reliable companies. They may be carried in a sheath on a belt or in a pack. The many tasks that these tools may perform might just save a hunt or a life.

Thoughts
As hunters and fishermen we so much like to sit with others and talk about our last outdoor trip--the successes we had or the beauty we enjoyed in the outdoors. 
 
With that in mind, as Christian outdoor men and women we should have no problem sharing His wondrous works and deeds. 
 
We, of all people, have more opportunities than most to experience His beauty and majesty in the outdoors and to appreciate how unique the critters are that He has created.

Action Point
Next time you're sitting around telling hunting and fishing stories, try to incorporate God into the conversation. What a perfect opportunity to give Him credit for all He has done in your life and for all He has created.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Can't buy a strike? Try a spinner bait or jig in a hot color like blaze orange or chartreuse. These outrageous hues don't look like much in nature, but they can provoke a reaction strike from a moody bass.

Thoughts
It was my son's first elk hunt. His grandfather, a couple of friends and I were working our way back to our trucks when I stopped to take a break and was separated for just a moment from the rest of the group. In that split second (okay, maybe a minute or two), he spotted an elk. I suddenly heard a cow call just in time to look up and see him take a shot. At age 13, he had taken his first elk.

Have you ever considered how important first's are:
  • First time you fell in love.
  • First kiss. 
  • First time your child said "Dada" or "Mama." 
  • First day of the new year--a favorite for new resolutions.
  • Your first big game draw and first big game success. 
  • Your first car. 
God made first's to be special in our lives because they are special to Him. When speaking of giving to God, King Solomon instructs us to "give Him the first and the best."

In all parts of your life, give God your first's:
  • The first part of your day through prayer and devotions. 
  • The first part of your week by going to church. 
  • The first part of your paycheck. 
Just to name just a few. 

Remember how important first's are to you and know that they are just that special to God. Give God your firsts and see if He doesn't "burst your barn."

I can't tell you how many hunters have told me that, after a long period of nothing happening, it was when they stopped to take a break that they saw what they were looking for.
Remember: stop frequently, look, listen, smell; and then, be prepared.

Thoughts
Just like everyone else, I have my good and bad days. There are days on the job when everything works out fine; and days when I think that I seriously need to rethink my career choice. 
 
However, when I am in the field or on the water, there is a much different perspective - almost as if my battery were being recharged. I need to be out and away from what is required of me and spend a short time enjoying what I love to do. 
 
Spending time in the outdoors revives my soul. When a bass grabs a top water lure, a big pike comes from out of nowhere and crushes a bucktail, or a goose locks its wings and responds to a call - those are some of the things that keep me going. (Jim C)

Action Point
Occasionally, when I have something on my mind that is of concern to me, I will flip through the Bible and ask God to "hit" me with something. As a matter of fact, that is exactly how I came across this verse. I asked, and God responded.
Outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, shooting and camping, are some of the ways to recharge our batteries. In much the same way, I enjoy reading in the Psalms or Proverbs to revive my soul. 

The Law of the Lord is perfect, and it completely fascinates me. When something weighs heavy on my heart, I can go to Him with it and be revived to continue, to press on and endure.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
In the last couple of years, I have made it a point to take a few minutes while fishing or hunting to enjoy the moment - really look at what's around you and feel what you're doing. Sometimes the sense of awe that you feel is the memory you will take with you from that day. It will revive your soul.

Thoughts
It's usually fun to meet a stranger in the woods. You're both hunting, so you instantly have something in common, something to talk about. I met one of my best friends under such circumstances. God brought us together in the middle of the Arizona outback thirty years ago. We're still hunting together, and now our boys hunt together! What a blessing from God!

God can work in unusual ways to bring blessings to us. A few days ago something very different happened when I met a stranger. It was late afternoon and I was checking out of the local hardware store (almost as dangerous a place for me as the local Sportsman's Warehouse outdoors store) and I spoke to the check-out lady, called her by name, Natalia, the name on her nametag. She immediately looked up, smiled, and almost cried. 
 
Natalia told me that I was the first person all day who had called her by her name. She thanked me; and I thought, what if I hadn't extended that little act of courtesy and kindness? Natalia might have gone home that evening believing that nobody saw her or cared about her, and that would be tragic. 
 
Again, I was blessed, not for what I had done, but for the lesson that I had learned about paying attention to people around me. Who knows, maybe Natalia was an angel sent by God to see if I was really paying attention to those folks I see in my daily routines.

Be observant of people around you, take note of them; be kind to them. They may have a special need that you can help meet, and by so doing have an opportunity to share Jesus with them.

When you see somebody broke down in the woods, stop and offer assistance. It just might be a life-threatening situation.

Today's Photograph . . . . We Cannot Be The Danger To Our Kids Through The Words We Use Around Them "(NPS)

Thoughts
The biggest whitetail buck I have ever seen was up in Canada on a camping trip. We were coming into our campground one evening while we were on vacation, and we glanced off to the side of the road. 
 
There stood an enormous majestic 12 + point buck just coming out of a thicket! He stood still with his chest puffed out in front - only 15 yards away. We had stopped our van, lowered the windows, and gawked. My family and I were just stunned and amazed! A few minutes went by before the big bruiser turned and jumped back into the woods. 
 
My entire family spent the next several minutes talking about how amazing and beautiful that buck was. We were trying to figure out how a deer could grow up and not get shot in an area where so many people traveled through. It wasn't until a couple of days later that we found the explanation. 
 
As we were driving out of the provincial park, I noticed a sign that said that the entire peninsula (about 30 miles) where our campground was located was actually a game preserve. No hunting or trapping of any kind was permissible there. This buck had grown up in an environment that was completely safe, and because of this, he was healthy and majestic! 
 
God desires our children to be healthy and whole, so that they can serve Him well! But in order for that to happen, they have to grow up in an environment that is safe. It's up to us to create a "safety zone" for our children in our homes. This means that we consciously have to choose to be encouragers. We cannot be the danger to our kids through the words we use around them.

Action Point
Children need our affirmation, our love, and our blessing. We need to be wise in how we use our language. We have the ability to impact our children in a way that can help them be healthy and whole, or we can tear them down and create fear and insecurity. 
 
It's pretty clear what God desires of us. We just need to do it God's way!

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Two-ways are a great tool to use while out in the wild. Most good 2-ways will let you communicate with someone up to 3 miles away, and if you're by water, the frequency will get even more than that.

Today's Photograph . . . . We Need Other Christians To Mentor and To Model Us About Life Experiences and Our Relationship With Our God and Our Brothers and Our Sisters  (MQ)

Thoughts
A few years ago a group of men from our church decided to go on a fly-in fishing trip to a remote Canadian lake.
 
Having made several trips to this lake, I organized the trip, planned the menu, and made the necessary reservations with the camp and float base. 
 
The lake was 35 miles long and 6 miles wide with a lot of rock reefs that came up close to the surface. To avoid any collisions with the reefs, I led the way to the fishing spots. We caught fish every day and had an occasional shore lunch. We had great fellowship, ate well, and told a lot of fishing stories. 
 
Trips like these offer quality time with each other. As Christians we need each other to grow. Christlike character is built through relationships. Just like we need mentors to teach us about hunting and fishing, we also need other Christians to mentor and model us about life experiences and our relationship with God and our brothers and sisters.

Start a fishing club or a small group in your church or community. It's a great way to build relationships and be an example and a help to others.

If you go to an unfamiliar Canadian lake, hire a guide for a day to show you where the fish and dangerous reefs are located.

Thoughts
I missed! I can't believe it! It is the first turkey I ever missed! I shot three times at a huge Merriam's long beard (mature male turkey) at twelve yards. 

Afterwards, I was in the dumps. I just knew I would not get another chance. But three hours later, another long beard appeared! After a little coaxing on the call from my friend and just a little from me, he came in, presented a target, and this time the shot was accurate. 

My friend who called him said, "You redeemed yourself with that shot." 

God had given me another chance to fill my tag. He is the God of the second chance!

Action Point
I missed in another area as well. We all do. We miss God's mark of holiness. That is the definition of sin, missing God's mark. "For the wages of sin is death"--the bad news--"but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"--the rest of the story, Romans 6:23 (NIV). 

God offers a chance to be redeemed; and only HE would do that. He provided His Son as a substitute payment for our sin--mine and yours!!! Have you been redeemed? Has your sin been washed away? Will you enjoy eternal life with God? 

I received this offer of redemption as a gift from God when only six years old. He redeemed me. He forgave my sins. 

You may be redeemed by believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He will redeem all who come to God by faith in Him. Redeemed!!! A second chance!!! That is a great feeling. I was happy and pleased to have the second chance at that gobbler; but I am even happier to have the redemption that results in everlasting life!!!

Learn from the mistakes you make. Learn how to do it better next time. Go over the situation in your mind and mark well the lessons you can use when the opportunity presents itself again. In the field, every mistake may be turned into a learning experience.

Thoughts
In just a few weeks, hunting season opens.  I am already seeing seasoned hunters out, watching their favorite spots and probably wondering, "Is the game still there this year?"

Watching is an important part of the hunt if we want to find a trophy. Jesus tells us to watch for His return--be mindful of His return and be ready! He is our Trophy!!!

Watching is not passive; it involves our interaction with the Word of God. We need to understand the times in which we live by keeping ourselves immersed in God's Word, the Bible. Use your knowledge to encourage your family and friends to also be watching for His return.
 
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Sitting on a high overlook, glassing with a steady pair of binoculars, is a great way to find out where the game is hanging out. Try securing your binoculars on a tripod. It is amazing how much more you can see with a steady hand.

Thoughts
A little history on the NDP (National Day of Prayer) that will never be referenced in our public education system which I discovered from John Bornschein, Vice Chairman of the NPD Task Force,  on the Day of Prayer website. While sitting in the same pew previously occupied by Abraham Lincoln, President Dwight D. Eisenhower learned from Rev. George M. Dotherty a reminder worded "under God" placed within the Pledge of Allegiance would be impressed on all our children. Per President Eisenhower, "In this way, we are affirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war." On June 14, 1954 Congress introduced and passed the bill that the President signed into law four months later challenging this great nation's citizens to remember the God of our fathers.

The first school privilege, my teacher, my classmates, and myself collectively did was to stand and recited the Pledge of Allegiance right after the morning bell quieted. Having had family members serve in the military, it was an honor to pledge my allegiance under my God's observant eye to my country and honor that awesome symbol of my freedom, our flag. Thank you, President Eisenhower and all who served, currently serving, and those who died protecting our freedom and our flag.
 
Before the law, the Pledge of Allegiance author, Francis Bellamy, was known for using the "under God" phrase many times in 1892 even though he did not include it in the initial pledge. Before him, it was utilized by an impressive list of courageous men:
  • Sir Henry Bacon, the father of modern law during the 13th century
  • Captain John Smith to Queen Anne.
  • William Bradford, the Mayflower Compact author.
  • 21 of our Founding Fathers including John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson.
Our country was birthed to protect all men created equally possessing certain unalienable rights endowed by our Creator; in other words "under God's sovereignty." Territorial selfishness, Planned Parenthood, and Nazi eugenics, the sadistically insane planned deaths of millions of precious Jews and their supportive friends were not even on the horizon to cloud their thoughts. 
 
God is the defender of the innocent. The question is when will He require justice from America for the loss of 1.3 million innocent future doctors, lawyers, politicians, teachers, inventors, engineers detailed in these averaged statistics:
  • 1.3 million irreplaceable babies per year providing desired ingredients for fountain-of-youth cosmetics.
  • 26,400 priceless babies per week protecting a woman's choice.
  • 3,800 precious babies per day protecting a woman's sexual lifestyle.
  • 158 priceless babies per hour ensuring a woman's selfish lifestyle.
  • 2.6 precious babies per second guaranteeing a woman's irresponsible lifestyle.
These statistics reflect more than all the men and women we have lost in all our wars and battles of this great nation. Our hearts break and grieve over the loss of one life in the military, why not for the precious babies that have no voice? "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Statement clarified in innocent blood.
Now on to the National Day of Prayer historical occurrences:
  • First inception in 1774 conducted by a reverend opening the Congress in prayer followed by the reading of four Bible chapters.
  • 142 national calls to prayer between 1789 to 2013.
  • 65 Presidential National Day of Prayer Proclamations between 1952 to 2013. Every President since 1952 has signed a proclamation.
  • 34 of our 44 Presidents signed the Proclamations. Three of the 10 Presidents who didn't sign them died in office. President William Taft and President Warren Harding of the 10 fell into a different category due to signing Proclamations for Prayer and Thanksgiving.
  • Congress and President Harry Truman established by law the National Day of Prayer into an annual event supported by the Constitutional freedom of speech and the Constitutional freedom of religion.
  • President Reagan designated the annual day to be the first Thursday in May in 1988.
  • 1259  state and federal calls for prayer have occurred since 1775.
  • The day is for all Americans to have the right to celebrate the day in their own way regardless of their religion.
  • The National Prayer by Anne Graham Lotz is available on the website and also on her Facebook page. The prayer is read by everyone and by every group representing all of us as one voice and one nation under God on this national day as well as our personal requests. 
  • The scheduled activities are amazing and awesome. For example:
    • Prayer breakfasts..
    • Concerts of prayer.
    • Student flagpole gatherings.
    • Sports stadium gatherings.
    • Rallies.
    • Church prayer vigils.
    • Bible reading marathons. 
    • Most advertized Washington DC formal gathering. 

Action Point
Found this summarizing statement on the National Day of Prayer website by Shirley Dobson, NPD Chair, "We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep. I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up forfeiting this freedom, too." Which reminds us of Edmund Burke's statements: 
  • "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." 
  • "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.
Also love her instructions on PRAYing:
  • Praise.
  • Repent.
  • Ask.
  • Yield.

James 5:16 reminds us to "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much," (NKJV). 

In summary here's the plan:
  • Stop sleeping. Wake up. Stand..
  • Become proactive in following Christ closely to preventing evil's success and sin's lure.
  • Actively avoid the appearance of all evil.
  • PRAY in community.
  • PUSH till prayers are answered.
  • Find new problems, people, challenges, and needs while  PRAYing and PUSHing. 
  • Bibles are very powerful instructions when read and devoured daily.
  • Attend a NDP in your area today. Get involved.

  • Put on the armor of our God.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day

Today's Photograph . . . . When The Sin Fits, He Will Forgive and Heal Our Land IF We Humble Ourselves (Donny N)
Today is like the day before the hunt of our lifetimes.  The day for each of us to prepare, to be ready to manage the upcoming challenges. Today is a most important day for our future. It's the day before the 63rd National Day of Prayer here in the US. Be careful though you could be reprimanded if you bring Jesus, a Bible, or prayer to work in this nation that needs His protection and guidance more than ever before. Below we will list a few facts and bullet points to encourage each of you to step up and participate through prayer.
 
Bible Study Verse
II Chronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (NKJV) 
 
Thoughts
"My people called by My name" refers to each of us that have had their sins washed away by Christ's blood. We're called CHRISTians. We have had to bow before the King of Kings and gladly relinquish all control to His Lordship.
 
The humble part should be pretty easy since our country, our finances, our relationships, our families, and our priorities could all use a lot of improvement. You don't think so? Well do a fact check:
  • Married, divorced, meshed blended family with multiple grandparents, and same old common denominator you with same baggage from previous marriage creating new marriage with new spouse with the different hair color, the different body weight, the different job resume, and the different loaded steamer trunk (how's that working with same common denominator you?). Married to same person only once, ask that person if they'd marry you again long pause or just a smile no instant verbal "Yes!" - there's room for improvement. 
  • Addictions, none? What about the overeating of those comfort foods (a little heavier than you should be?), the sleeping pills, the alcohol, the antidepressants, the video games before mentioning the illegal drug use or the porn available on your really wise smart phone, on your laptop, on your ipod, and on your family computer. In America today, 1 out of 13 teenagers are on a prescribed antidepressant, not sure on the adults. Porn has become the reward for highest scores in many popular video games besides the multi-million dollar industry that fuels the indulgent appetite while threatening families, children, women. There's room for improvement.
  • Finances, money, money, money - we all could use more. A bigger house, the bigger truck, the vacation home, the boat, the vacation with the kids then the vacation without the kids - there's room for improvement.
  • Priorities? Job first to get more money, job first again then church unless we had to workon Saturday then we have to be outdoors instead of at church to recover from working on Saturday before the Monday morning blues are due,  here's Monday, no family time, no sitting at the table to eat together (what family does that anymore?), if I didn't have a family I wouldn't desperately need the money, the job, could hunt more, fish more - there's a lot of room for improvement here.
  • You say nothing applies, then pray for others that are dealing with above struggles. But, you might want to check your heart, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:5 (NKJV).
Yes, all of us need more Jesus Christ in our lives.

Notice what's missing? Time!!! Time with God, time reading His word, time praying for guidance, discernment, and family needs, quality time with spouse, quality time if any with kids, the list goes on.

Lastly "heal their land." Yes there's room for improvement. Current and future children are in debt to the government for thousands at one day old due to the extravagant spending in Washington such as giving billions to countries that hate and want to wipe us off the Earth, rewarding those that didn't work in educating their minds in school and now choosing to live off government assistance in exchange for their supporting votes, and politicians spending America to financial collapse for a few examples. Not smart or discerning. 

Yes there's healing needed and God's way will work, but He chooses to work through us humans. Prayer is our strongest weapon to reclaiming America back, one man, one woman, one family at a time.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Years ago my family and I learned to pray in Jesus Christ's name a hedge of thorns around loved ones for their spiritual, mental, and physical safety. We have all been guilty of under estimating the power of our prayers to our Abba Father. Now it's time to surround America with stronger praying men, women, teenagers, and children. 

Remember we are not fighting a battle of flesh and blood as stated in Ephesians 6:12, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places," (NKJV).
