Today's Photograph . . . . We Should Bless Others As God Blesses Us  (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Psalm 65:11-12
You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance. They drop on  the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. (NKJV)

Thoughts
Have you ever taken a drive in the desert southwest in the Spring after there have been good Winter rains? When you see the abundance of beautifully colored flowers that bloom, it seems as if the hills are rejoicing.
(Jimmy S)
Action Point
As the hills produce flowers and grass that provide food and cover for animals of the Earth, we too should be productive with an abundance of love and encouragement for those in need around us. We should bless others as God blesses us.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Never hook your fishing hooks in the guides of your rod - it nicks them, causing damage to your line. Either cut off the lure and reel in the line, or put a rubber band around the handle of the rod to secure your line with a weight or lure at the end.

Today's Photograph . . . . Whether They Are Our Hunting Buddies, Long-time Friends, or New Acquaintances, We Should Invite Them  (Donny N)
Bible Study Verse
Luke 14:24
For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper. (NKJV)

Thoughts
Our job as His disciples is to go out and invite lost souls to His supper. Whether they are our hunting buddies, long-time friends, or new acquaintances, we should invite them.

God says that those who are invited and reject Him will be rejected by Him. Have you accepted the invitation to His Feast?
(Jimmy S)

Action Point
Challenge yourself to invite a guest to His great supper. Be a strong witness of God's salvation.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Top off your boat's fuel tank in the winter or off-season. Then add a container of fuel conditioner to prevent condensation build-up and to keep the fuel from going bad.

Today's Photograph . . . . If Not, Ask God To Change You To Be More Like Him  (NPS)
Bible Study Verse
II Corinthians 3:18
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, Who is the Spirit.  (NIV)

Thoughts
Have you ever watched the same deer or elk for a few years? Each year, he takes on more and more of the likeness of his father, the old buck or bull.

The same is true with our kids. Has anybody looked at you and your children and stated that it's easy to see that they're your son or daughter? How do they know? Because the kids look and act like you!

If someone tells my son, "You're just like your father," I hope my son takes it as a compliment, stands a little taller and says, "Thanks." Likewise, I hope the people around me will look at me and say, "You're a lot like your Father (God)." If they do, it means that God has been at work in my life doing His transformation thing--making me more like Him, a reflection of Himself. I can't do it on my own; it has to come from His Spirit working within me. He has to do the work. I simply have to let Him.
(Cliff S)
Action Point
If you look in a mirror, do you like what you see? If not, you can change your hairstyle, maybe some facial features, or maybe the style of your clothes. If you look in the mirror of God's Word, do you like what you see? If not, ask God to change you to be more like Him. He'll do it if you ask.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When you're getting camouflaged up for a hunt, don't forget the gloves and facemask. Have someone take a photo of you in the brush in camouflage without them; then you'll want to add them to the list to finish the job of "disappearing" into the woods.

Today's Photograph . . . . Best Of All, He Knows What We Can Handle  (Brett M)

Bible Study Verse
I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  (NKJV)

Thoughts
"If one perceives each day of existence, labor, and basic provisions as a gift from God, and accepts whatever God gives, then that person lives an abundant life." (Author unknown, assumed to be King Solomon, son of David).

God is so good. He gives us what we need to live an abundant life every day. Whether we are at work or sitting quietly waiting on game, we should enjoy the things God has provided. My wife and I have a favorite place to go to fish. Even if we do not catch a single fish, it is so peaceful and refreshing to sit in the boat and reflect on how God has blessed our lives.

I have always found that it is so much better to enjoy the simple pleasures of this life than to fret over the things we don't have.
(Chris Q)
Action Point
God tells us to pray every day--about the things:
  • That we need.
  • Our concerns.
  • That we want.
  • What we think we want.
God will always answer our prayers. His answer:
  • Maybe.
  • Yes.
  • No.
  • Wait.
He knows what is best for us and He knows what we need; best of all, He knows what we can handle.

Accept His answer with thanksgiving. "Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches - Feed me with the food allotted to me; lest I be full and deny You, and say, "Who is the Lord?" Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God," Proverbs 30:8-9 (NKJV).

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Do not forget your camera on your hunting and fishing trips because what you take home for the day may not be the quarry you intended, but the picture that God painted.

Today's Photograph . . . . The Difference Is That, As Christians, We Know God Is Watching Over Us And, If Needed, Will Carry Us   (NPS)
Bible Study Verse
Matthew 11:28
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  (NKJV)

Thoughts
As we all know, life is not always just a relaxing hike in the woods! Even as Christians, we have what we consider to be burdens. The difference is that, as Christians, we know God is watching over us and, if needed, will carry us.

When hunting, most will agree that there are times we have burdens that need to be carried. It could be anything from hunting gear to recently killed game. To help carry their load, some hunters have turned to the sure-footed mule.
(Doug L)

Action Point
As the mule will give the hunter rest from his burden, Christ reminds us in Matthew 11:28 that He, too, will give us rest.

Instead of worrying, or letting life's burdens drag you down, turn to the One who can ease your burdens.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When heading out on your camping or hunting expedition, think of ways to lighten your load. Use a portable game hauler (cart), an ice chest with wheels, a sling for your long gun, a sure-footed mule, or a few strong buddies. You'll enjoy your trip even more with the energy you save.

Today's Photograph . . . . I Thanked The Lord For The Picture and Experience, His Timing Was Not Random (Fred B)
Bible Study Verses
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. (NKJ)

Thoughts
As I entered Canaan Valley State Park (near Davis, WV), a herd of whitetails caught my attention. While taking pictures of triplet spotted fawns (to send to my grandchildren), another animal watcher told me about a mink that sometimes crossed a nearby stretch of road. I laughed and thought how "random" it would be to see that wary furbearer, let alone be able to photograph him on my phone. Minks don't like attention!

Cruising down that road a little later, what should happen? The mink ran across the road, right in front of my stopped truck! I regretted being too slow with my phone camera, as he dove down into the ditch. But, then, much to my surprise, he ran back across the road and stopped for me to take the picture above! Then, he was gone.

I thanked the Lord for the great picture, and experience! His timing was not "random"!
(Fred B)

Action Point
We know in our heads that God's timing is perfect. The problem we have, is our eyesight! Sometimes things don't look perfectly timed, in our perspective, do they?! But, as we grow in our relationship to Christ, He begins to show us, as we are willing to see and believe, what is His perfect timing. We look with different "spiritual eyes," and then we are amazed at:
  • What He does.
  • How He does it.
  • When He does it.
David reminds us in Psalm 103:2, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits," (NKJV). The Hebrew words literally mean, "Don't let the good things/gifts (from God) pass by, without noticing them." His timing is not "random."

God has never had a problem of anyone giving Him too much attention or credit. It's mostly less attention or credit. Let's do something about that, and be sure not to miss His timing, His blessings, and His actions in our lives. Thank Him, and tell others what He did, and how His timing was perfect!

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Glassing while kneeling or sitting many times reveals a different perspective and view of the woods. Slowly glassing, moving cautiously, taking our time, will many times not only show us the game that we're hunting, but also keep us from spooking them.

Today's Photograph . . . . Throw Away That Camouflage You've Been Wearing   (Jack M)
Bible Study Verse
II Corinthians 6:17
Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. (NIV)

Thoughts
In many of our hunting experiences, camouflage is very important. So many of the critters we pursue would be nearly impossible to harvest if we did not use camouflage to our benefit.

This is particularly true in turkey hunting. If you have not experienced turkey hunting, you are missing an amazing adventure. Due to the turkey's abilities, it is extremely important to have the proper camouflage.

We as Christians tend to use camouflage in our walk with Jesus. We put on cover scent in many forms so that people won't find out that we are Christians. We camouflage ourselves to look like the world so we don't stick out. The Bible tells us that we are not part of this world. I am not saying that we should run around in "blaze" orange Christianity either.

The most effective tool to show Jesus is our own life. I have had people with whom I worked or associated on a regular basis say to me, "There's something different about you. You're always smiling and upbeat. How do you do it?" This is a real easy chance for me to say, "Honestly I cannot do it without God's help" and opens the door for further discussion about my personal relationship with Christ.
(Norm S)
Action Point
Don't be ashamed of your belief in Jesus. After all, Jesus died on the Cross for your benefit. He paid a debt He did not owe. I thank Him each day for paying that debt that I could never pay. He is such a good Friend to us. Let Him lead your life. Throw away that camouflage you've been wearing.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Sportsmen love to dress their small children in camouflage. It is important to keep a very close eye on them when we dress them in camouflage and take them outside. At 20 feet away, a child can be completely hidden. Children who become lost in the woods are hard enough to find as it is. Let's keep a close eye on our kids every time we are outside with them, especially when they are sporting that cute camouflage outfit.

Today's Photograph . . . . Little Children, Keep Yourselves From Idols  (Will D)
Bible Study Verses
Exodus 20:1-3
And God spoke all these words, saying:  "I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me." (NKJV)

Thoughts
Because of my service at church on Sunday morning, I need to get there very early. Every week, as I am driving to church, I see boat after boat heading to the Gulf or the bays for the worship of a different god.

I know that it is very easy for us to be tempted to fall into the worship of some other god. God has blessed us with so much; we need to be very careful. We have the ability to turn anything into a god that we worship.

How can we tell if we are heading down that road? Here is a good test: What do we think about most of the time or put first in our lives? It can be our home, a car, even a boat. For the sportsman, it can be a new fishing rod, a gun, a bow, or even the pursuit of that trophy elk, deer, or fish. Another god in our lives may be the little remote that we pick up when we sit down on the couch. Okay, I know it is not the god, but it surely controls the god.

None of these things in and of themselves is bad; God has given them to us to enjoy Read James1:17. It's when we put them in the place that God should occupy in our lives that we get in trouble. What is it that you think about the most? Has it come between you and God?
(Chris Q)
Action Point
We need to clean out the closet of our lives from time to time. Look at all the things with which God has blessed us. Are we serving the things that we have, or are we serving God Who provided those things?

There is nothing we have that has not been given to us by God. He gives us far more than we deserve. Praise Him for it. "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen," I John 5:21, (NKJV)
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Keep your gear stowed neatly in your boat. That next wave could cause you to lose your footing. A cluttered deck could result in adding injury to the insult.

Today's Photograph . . . . God Has A Purpose And A Plan For Each Of Us   (Jack M)
Bible Study Verse
Amos 5:8
He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is His name. (ESV)

Thoughts
Morning. A new day. The sun is just coming up. The night is fading away.  The sun will bring warmth to the Earth.

It was cold the morning I took the above photo. Its heat was welcome. God's plan was at work. The sun was rising as He promised and according to His design, timing, power, and under His control.
(Jack M)

Action Point
Imagine the power to:
  • Create and control the stars.
  • Turn night to day.
  • Make the things stated in the above verse.
I know I do not have these abilities or powers nor does any other man. Only the Lord God, the Sovereign Creator, and the Sustainer of all things has such ability and might.

Like the prophet Amos and others, people were used by God to reveal His attributes and His ways. One was Jeremiah, a prophet of the Old Testament. He was faithful throughout his life in a very difficult ministry.

Jeremiah states that God set him apart as a prophet before he was even conceived. "Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations, ' " Jeremiah 1:4-5 (ESV). Isn't that an amazing thing?

Most humans can't make their plan for a day a reality, but God states the beginning from the end. We can trust Him. We can rely on Him. He is a trustworthy reality in a world filled with uncertainty, fear, and trouble.

God has a purpose and a plan for each of us. We just need to know Him and to trust Him. The first step in that plan is to be saved, to place your personal faith in Him through Jesus His Son.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Make sure of the legal hunting time each day. The GPS applications on many mobile phones have accurate sunrise and sunset tables. Know the laws of the states where you hunt. They vary from state-to-state. Make sure you know them in advance and that you obey these laws.

Today's Photograph . . . One Of God's Judgments On Sin Is To Allow One To Continue In It  (Jack M) .
Bible Study Verse
II Kings 17:25
And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them. (KJV)

Thoughts
I was just thinking about some of the natural disasters that have stricken the world during the past months. Experienced in the US and elsewhere have been floods and droughts, extreme cold and heat, tornadoes, hurricanes, straight line wind events, ice storms and snow storms, devastating attacks of insects, and even killer bees. Why?

In the verse above, God used lions to demonstrate His disapproval of the ways and worship of idols in Israel. Natural disasters were warnings to turn from their sin and turn to God.

Just a thought; but could the reasons for the many natural catastrophes and disasters be the same as those given in the passage above? Could God be sending us a wakeup call?
(Jack M)

Action Point
One of God's judgments on sin is to allow one to continue in it. When He confronts a woman with her sin and gives her a chance to repent and to change course, that is an act of grace and mercy. These times are invitations to turn to God from ones sin and evil choices. He is willing to, even desirous to forgive and to reestablish the relationship.

But, sin separates a man from God. His sins hide the face of God. Until those sins are confessed and forsaken, God will not give blessing and peace.

If you want God to bless you, do what God says He will bless.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When attacked by a wild animal that is stronger than you are, sometimes you may not be able to fight back. Lay on your face on the ground and cover your head with your arms. Your inner parts will receive some protection from being face down, and your arms may provide protection to your head, neck, and upper spine.

Today's Photograph . . . . Live As If Jesus Were Really In charge Of Your Life, Because He Is  (MQ)
Bible Study Verse
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Thoughts
The never-ending question that has been around since Satan tempted Eve is: Who is in charge? When you see a nice 28" brown trout swimming freely in a clear back eddy along a pristine mountain stream, he is in charge of his domain.

You skillfully cast just the right fly into the back eddy; he socks it with a ferocious appetite--then you are in charge. You catch the fish, bring it in on the bank, and put it on a stringer to be cooked later for your pleasure. You're still in charge.
In whose domain are you, right now? Who or what is in charge of your life? You may not know it, but if you are a Christian, you have been crucified with Christ. He is in charge; life is not about you or your ego anymore.
(Tom H)
Action Point
Live as if Jesus were really in charge of your life, because He is! It is when we contradict this truth that our lives get muddled and twisted. Read the above verse again. It doesn't say anything about us calling all the shots.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When fishing along a larger stream or small river, look for those nice little back eddies and cast along the edge of the main flow in the calmer part where the water is moving slower. You just might be rewarded with a nice tug on your line.

Today's Photograph . . . . Be Still, and Know That I Am God   (MQ)
Bible Study Verse
Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!  (NKJV)

Thoughts
The other night I was feeling rather irritable. The TV was blaring; my son was jumping around the room, and being very noisy. Realizing the state I was in, I decided to step outside before I got so annoyed that I did something I would regret.

I stepped out into the darkness and sat down. It was peaceful and still. Soon, deer came up to drink at the watering hole. My spirit was calmed. This situation reminds me of King Saul, who called for David to play the harp for him to calm his spirit. (1 Samuel 16:23
(Chris Q)
Action Point
We need to recognize when we are not walking in the Spirit and take the appropriate action. "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh," Galatians 5:16 (NASB)
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Taking youngsters into the field for a still hunt can be challenging at best. Realize that your goal is for them to acquire a desire to participate in your sport. Take along something that can QUIETLY occupy them in the blind. Make the first few jaunts short, and point out anything that moves. If just watching a squirrel or armadillo can entertain them, imagine their delight to catch even a distant glimpse of a deer or turkey. And don't get mad if they scare game away in their excitement!

Today's Photograph . . . . Take The Necessary Time To Find Your Downed Birds  (MQ)
Bible Study Verse
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." (NKJV)

Thoughts
Ruling over the fish of the sea and the birds in the air is an awesome responsibility that God has given us. With new technology, it is easier to overharvest our fish and game. It is crucial to maintain proper predator/prey ratios.

Harvesting game should depend on the populations. Once an animal is harvested, we must utilize it as a food source and thank God for His provision.
(Tom L)

Action Point
Take the responsibility to promote rules within your party for hunting and fishing that emphasize good ethics and stewardship.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Try going barbless, release your fish carefully, and only keep injured predator fish or prolific prey fish. When bird hunting, always use a trained hunting dog. In heavy cover (cattails, switchgrass) with multiple flushes, shoot one bird, line it up, walk directly to the downed bird, and call for the dog if he is not in the immediate area. Take the necessary time to find your downed birds.

Today's Photograph . . . . Someone's Gotta Dig The Worms . . .   (Fred B)
Bible Study Verses
I Corinthians 12:18-23, 27
But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. (NKJV)

Thoughts
Paul portrays believers within the Body of Christ, by using appendages and organs of the human body--the eye, the head, the foot, and the hand. In all of chapter 12, he reminds us of the interaction and interdependence of each part within the Body. Almost in the same words that Jesus used to teach His disciples that the "humble will be exalted,"

Paul refers to, "No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it," I Corinthians 12:22-24 (NKJV).
(Fred B)

Action Point
It is imperative upon us to treat others, as Christ treats them. How many times have we looked at some in our church, as if they were more important than others, just to find:
  • Their accomplishments or prominence, was due to someone behind the scenes?
  • Those who were more behind-the-scenes in their service of others, were actually quietly serving Christ, and not men.

My pastor-mentor from my teen years, the man under whose ministry I surrendered to preach the Gospel, is now 97. Once I told him that after God called me at age 16, the two greatest influences on my life were Billy Graham, and him.

He replied, "That puts me in good company." To which I replied, "No, Pastor Scribner, that puts Billy in good company." This humble, Godly, mostly unknown man, is definitely one who is "worthy of greater honor."

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When teaching others to fish, don't take anyone who won't help dig the worms. My granddaughter (above) and grandson know that it's all a part of the fishing trip, including cleaning and eating the catch. Exception? If you're practicing "catch and release."

When teaching others to hunt, don't take anyone who won't dress their game, and eat it. In this way, you teach them to respect the quarry, do their part on the trip,  and appreciate the seriousness of taking an animal's life.

Today's Photograph . . . . David Disagrees   (Fred B)
Bible Study Verses
Psalm 119:30,38, 128, 140, 151-152, 160
I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.
Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You.
Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.
Your word is very pure; therefore Your servant loves it.
You are near, O Lord, and all Your commandments are truth. Concerning Your testimonies,
I have known of old that You have founded them forever.
The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
(NKJV)

Thoughts
There was no doubt in David's mind, nor in his writings, that ALL of God's Word was true, absolute, eternal, pure, holy, and awesome. The list goes on and on, especially in Psalm 119!

God's Word has been preserved by Him throughout the ages:
  • Still totally reliable for us to place complete faith in, without fear of God's promises ever failing. "Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses," I Kings 8:56 (NKJV).
  • Never changing, like Him, "For I am the Lord, I do not change," Malachi 3:6a (NKJV).
  • Never lies. "In hope of eternal life which God, Who cannot lie, promised before time began," Titus 1:2 (NKJV).
Everyday paths for our lives lies in the absolute truth of the Word of God. David said, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," Psalms 119:105 (NKJV).
(Fred B)

Action Point
Like David, each of us need to stand firm on the Word of God. When the flow of this world, even in some church movements, is that there is no absolute truth, we need to:
  • Anchor our lives on the Bible.
  • Lead our families in believing and in knowing the Word.
  • Live out the precepts of God as we are strengthened to preserve the purity and Christlikeness that God wills for us in these last days.
As people founded on shifting sands proclaim "new revelation" and "new liberty in Christ," we will be able stand on the absolute truth of the holy and eternal Words of the One Who is Truth.

Sportsman's Tip of the Day
When your state's updated/new game reg's are published:
  • Read the changes from last year, usually highlighted in the front of the booklet.
  • Review the maps to make sure what special reg's your hunting area is under, and what this year's bag limits are.
  • Carry a copy of those game laws in your hunting vehicle, in case you might have any question or need reassurance of legality. Also, important phone #s are enclosed, to report poachers and/or emergencies.
  • Contact your wildlife office/officer if you have any questions, and get their interpretation, just to be safe.
