Today's Photograph . . . . Pursue God's Instructions and Reap The Benefits Of Restored Relationships   (Raymond R)
Bible Study Verse
Malachi 4:6
He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction." (NIV)

Thoughts
The state of Michigan began an "apprenticeship" program a few years ago to allow younger hunters to get their feet wet in the outdoors by hunting under the guidance of an adult.

It used to be that a child would have to take a "hunter's safety" class first, and then they could start hunting after they had passed their test. The state decided that the hunter's safety class would be more meaningful if the kids already had some experience in the outdoors. That way when they went through the rules and guidelines of what to do in the outdoors, they would have a better understanding of what the instructors were talking about.

A child is not required to be an apprentice first before taking the class, but it is now an option - relying on the adults closest to them to help them learn how to make good choices and decisions outdoors.
(Dave M)

Action Point
I'm not sure about your upbringing and relationship with your parents, but what I know is that God's expectation is for us to constantly be "mentoring" the younger generation. True authentic Christian role modeling is the absolute best way to pass our faith on to the next generation. The perception of God the Father will be developed for the next generation through how we handle our daily affairs . . . honesty, integrity, study habits, prayer life. Children see through hypocrisy in a millisecond.

The verse quoted above today were the last words of God to His people at the end of the Old Testament. A few hundred years passed between the writing of the Old Testament and the writing of the New Testament. God's final instructions, knowing that the writing was going to be silent for a period of time, was that it was essential for the fathers to turn their hearts towards their children and for their children to turn their hearts to their fathers or else they would suffer under the consequences of poor choices made.

May this be the heart's cry of our generation - that both the children and fathers would turn their hearts towards one another, so that we may live under the blessing of God instead of the failed choices of a hardened heart towards each other. Examine your heart today about your own heart condition to your earthly children or father. Does reconciliation need to take place? Don't hesitate . . .pursue God's instructions and reap the benefits of restored relationships.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
As you head outside, take a kid with you and help reveal God through His amazing creation that surrounds us.

Today's Photograph . . . . He Is Able To Give And Take Because He Is God   (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Proverbs 8:34-35
Blessed are those who listen to Me, watching daily at My doors, waiting at My doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. (NIV)

Thoughts
This fall, I've been hunting hard! I was blessed to get a lease on some new property, and I spent a good chunk of the summer getting it ready to go for white tail season. Once everything was in place to hunt, I was excited to get onto the property and bag a nice big buck. My trail cams kept showing some beautiful 8 points and one huge buck. I would go to bed having visions of successful hunts with any one of the bucks on my trail cams.

After 6 weeks of bow season, neither my son or I had anything to show for all our efforts. We had seen deer and small bucks, but nothing worth shooting. We had been out in the woods hour after hour after hour . . . to no avail.
We went down to my in-laws for Thanksgiving. We have hunted there in the past, but this year we had done nothing with the property, since we had gotten the new lease.

Well, long story short, we went out to a couple of old favorite spots . . .with putting no work into this property at all, and my son walked out of the woods with a good sized deer after one morning hunt. no scent wafers, no mock scrapes, no "doe in heat" scents, no food plots . . .just hunting an old trail.
(Dave M)

Action Point
God has a way of humbling us, doesn't He? I've been hunting long enough to know that hunting isn't about earning an opportunity for an animal, and it certainly isn't about what's fair.

God controls everything, and though our efforts on the new property were admirable, they didn't produce anything for us. But, God stepped in and blessed us in conditions where we had done nothing to merit harvesting an animal . . . it was simply a blessing from Him!!~1

In our everyday lives, we need to remember that we can never earn anything from God. He is able to give and take, because He is God. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of that.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Get to know your neighbors in the area you are hunting. You are most likely hunting the same animals and can potentially help each other out in developing quality herds. It helps you to monitor and know what animals are being taken, as well.

Today's Photograph . . . . He Was Going To Enjoy . . .   (Jack M)
Bible Study Verses
Psalm 34:8-10
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. Fear the Lord,  you His holy people, for those who fear Him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. (NIV)

Thoughts
What a wide variety of tastes God has given us to enjoy. The pike pictured above evidently thought the spinner bait looked really tasty. Maybe the colors were mistaken for small perch he loved to eat? He was going to enjoy a tasty breakfast, but instead was hauled into the boat.
(Jack M)

Action Point
God blesses us in so many tangible ways. Yet many do not recognize these benefits. More forget to thank Him. We just think these things are natural; that it's the way it is supposed to be.
God gives us many different things to taste, to experience, to enjoy. All this variety revealing the manifold means by which He provides for our needs and for our enjoyment. All illustrate the smorgasbord of experiences by which we may enjoy Him and our relationship with Him.

In the Old Testament period God utilized a variety of means in providing for His people. As He met those needs, often He shared a different name than He had used before. Not a different God, but a new name that showed His ability and desire to take care of them, meeting their needs, displaying His devotion and steadfast love in all the situations of life.

The Psalmist challenges us to EXPERIENCE God's goodness. That is why he uses the metaphors of tasting and viewing the Lord our God.

When you have a need, He is more than able to meet it. Trust in Him. Experience Him through His goodness as you pray and as He supplies.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Do your best to match the plugs, flies, poppers, jigs, or other type of lures that mimic the colors and size of the food source the fish are utilizing. The fly fishermen call it "matching the hatch." Your fishing success will increase.

Today's Photograph . . . . Water Your Life and Feed Your Soul . . . Creek Near Keystone, South Dakota (Jack M)
Bible Study Verse
John 4:10
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water."  (NIV)

Thoughts
Here in the Dakotas it's one of the driest summers in many years; some say in over forty years. The crops are in dire straits. If God does not bless us with ample rain soon, they will be beyond hope and beyond recovery.

In some places in the US farmers are already plowing the crops down, giving up for this year. The crops were planted early. The corn was tasseling showing that it was in pollination mode by July 4th. The older farmers in our country used to say "If the corn is knee high by the 4th of July it will be a great crop."

Having the crops planted early is only part of the story as to making a great crop. Ample rain is essential.
(Jack M)

Action Point
Just as the crops need regular and ample rain, you and I need regular and ample supply of the Living Water, the Lord Jesus. What is your plan to receive it? Do you have a plan? Have you made such a commitment, to daily connect with Christ?

We are to find in the Lord Jesus all we need for life and living. He is the One we are dependent upon. He is the one who can truly satisfy. In Scripture Jesus is called the Bread of Heaven and the Living Water.

How do we do drink of the Living Water and eat the Bread of Heaven? We do so by taking in the Bible. The written Word of God, the Bible is the major source of the Water of Life and the Bread of Heaven. Prayer, worship, mediation, memorization of Scripture, and sharing with others are other ways to take in this essential of healthy spiritual living.

Make a plan and a commitment to read the Bible and meditate upon what you read every day. It will "water" your life and "feed" your soul!!!

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Don't read well? Get the Bible on CD or DVD and play it while you drive. That way you can listen as you drive. Commit to memorizing God's Word. That way you have it always with you and available for meditation and encouragement.

Bible Study Verse
Psalms 34:1-3
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lordlet the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together! (ESV)

Thoughts
I grew up an outdoor adventure and sports enthusiast. In particular, I loved the sport of baseball. Fortunately, God blessed me with an ability to play baseball fairly well and these skills kept me on the field of play. I was always in the game and only sat out for injury purposes for the most part. It was a fun and exciting time in my life.

Now as an adult I've moved on to bigger ambitions, a life of ministry. Like baseball, my ministry experiences have been very similar in that I've always been doing something. God has sought to use me in various ways and I've been obedient and have served Him for many years in church and para-church ministry.

But, now, I find myself having to sit the bench, as I wait for God to move me into the next phase of ministry. To be honest, it has been very difficult for me. I want to get back in the game, but for some reason the Coach has determined it is better for me to "ride the pine."
(Michael T)

Action
Who are we to question the Coach? Know that God's plans and His timing are always perfect. Why can't we wait patiently on Him to prepare the way for us? Why do we need to be reminded daily to be patient?

Go and pray, read the Bible, and thank God for the extra rest and time He may be giving you to enjoy your family, before the rush of life consumes again.

While you're waiting, bless the Lord at all times!!!

Sportsmen's Tip of The Day
Diversify your outdoor activities. Don't always go hunting or fishing. Try taking in a ball game with your family, go hiking, or even go whitewater rafting. God is not limited to a box and neither should your hobbies or the time spent with your family.

Bible Study Verses
Hebrews 12:3-4
Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. (ESV)

Thoughts
It was early in the morning and the all-day men's softball tournament had just begun. A white softball the same color as the clouds hovering overhead flew through the air and disappeared into a grey and dense fog. It rolled to the fence and the batter was easily able to score an inside the park home run.

Our team was down many runs in the first inning, before we learned that our outfielders couldn't see the ball when it was hit. The tournament officials couldn't afford to postpone any of the games, so we had to play no matter what. It was the end of the first inning before the infield learned to yell to our outfielders which direction the ball was travelling.

We lost our first game of the tourney, which meant we had to play the rest of our games in the "loser's" bracket. Our team fought all the way through the "loser's" bracket and found ourselves sitting in the championship game, facing the best team who was undefeated. In the final inning we scored a run to win the game and force a second championship game, since now both teams had one loss.

The second game, a hard fought battle came down to the final out to determine the winner. An inside the park home run would secure the victory for our team. We spent the rest of the following week recovering from the soreness and pain of playing so many games. But in the end, it was all worth it to come home with the trophy!!!
(Michael T)

Action Point
Our softball team played in the fog and lost, but we were still able to pull it together and win the entire tournament. It wasn't easy and it definitely took a while to accomplish our goal.

Just know that whatever trial or tribulation that you are currently facing maybe daunting to you, but it is not to God. Lean on Him and trust Him. It will take some time and may involve some pain. But, eventually you will have victory over your problems. Just keep working hard and moving forward in faith.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
If your church has a softball team it can be a great tool for outreach ministry, if done the right way. Great sportsmanship reflecting Christ is vital to this ministry. Unfortunately over the years I have witnessed a lot of church softball teams damage the reputation of Christ over a game that in the end really doesn't mean a whole lot. Meet with leadership and self-examine the purpose and mission of your church sports team and it potential ministry impact.

Today's Photograph . . . .Martin Luther King, Washington (NPS)
Bible Study Verses
Proverbs 16:1-4
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. The Lord has made everything for its purpose,
even the wicked for the day of trouble. (ESV)

Thoughts
On a recent family vacation to Washington DC, I was amazed at the imagination and creativity of man, but overwhelmed by the designs of our supernatural creator.

On the second day of our trip, we were able to visit the White House and see the Washington Monument. Both worthy examples of man's creativity and admiration, but not without visible flaws and needed repairs. On this very same day, we were also able to hear from an expert at the National Zoo share with us the amazing and flawless design of the cheetah, and everything that allows him to be a great hunter and the fastest animal on the planet.

Did you know that God gave cheetahs, special claws for running, but not climbing? Did you know He gave them a sleeker skull with a smaller mouth and a larger nostril cavity to be able to pull in more oxygen for running? Did you know that He gave them the right kind of limbs, a special spine, and muscles needed to hunt its prey at high speeds? Later we listened to another individual share with us the purpose and design of feathers for great birds of flight. After a lengthy explanation, I was slightly amused when he told my children that man doesn't know why or how the feathers were designed in this special way.

Man doesn't have all of the answers, but God, our loving creator does. He has a purpose and a design for everything He makes, including you!
(Michael T)

Action Point
The imagination of man is filled with thoughts, visions, and contradicting plans to do both good and evil. The mind of man is restless, but pure in his own mind. His mind is bold, proud, arrogant, and boastful, yet a vast sea of doubt, insecurity and fear.

The mind is a mystery to its owner, but not to its incredible Designer. The plans of man and the spirit in which he acts out those plans is weighed and measured by God, and He is always sifting through our plans, our impure motives, our thoughts, and our actions.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Sometimes our adventures take place in the city and researching the internet can be especially helpful when it comes to maps, metro-rails, points of interest, fees, and even restrictions for which sites allow backpacks or bags. We found the internet to be very helpful in planning our family trip to Washington DC.

Today's Photograph . . . . Ask God For His Strength and His Wisdom   (MQ)
Bible Study Verse
Proverbs 24:10
If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!  (NIV)

Thoughts
My son and a friend traveled to Wyoming to visit my wife and me and to do some trout fishing. We decided to pack into a remote mountain lake at 10,000ft elevation. There were five riders and two pack horses to carry the float tubes and camping gear. The trip in went fairly well.

While we stopped once to tighten the packs, one of the horses, Molly, decided to be independent and wander off the trails looking for fresh morsels. Brock, a young and inexperienced rider, got a little frustrated with Molly. But with some instruction, he became more assertive. The horse began to cooperate and stay on the trails.

We unpacked the horses and set up camp, apparently just in time. A severe, unexpected storm hit the mountains. It poured for what seemed like hours. It was flooding, so we trenched around the tents and the camping area.

One of the horses got spooked in the storm and ran away. We tracked him and managed to get him back to camp.

The temperature dropped after the storm went through. Wet and cold, we tried to start a fire, but had difficulty. After finally finding dry kindling under a large cut back rock, we started a fire under the rock and transferred the coals to a spot near our campsite. We dried out our clothes and eventually warmed up.

The fishing was slow because of the storm.

On the way down the mountain, a pack slipped, so the gear had to be repacked.

Even with all the difficulties, I never heard a complaint or any angry words. How often is this the case in our outdoor activities? I'm thankful that these Christian men followed Phil 2:14, 'Do everything without grumbling or arguing," (NIV). They had the strength to endure and made the trip a memorable one.
(Tom L)

Action Point
It is critical that we set an example of strength to our children and friends without complaining or arguing. When troubles come our way, ask God for His strength and wisdom. He is always faithful.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When camping in high elevations, be prepared for all weather conditions. Bring sterno to help start a fire during wet conditions.

Today's Photograph . . . . Mules Seldom Kick Rocks or Logs or Stumble   (NPS)
Bible Study Verse
Romans 14:13
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. (NIV)

Thoughts
While packing in the mountains, I noticed some significant differences between mules and horses. Yes, mules are judged to be more stubborn and a little more temperamental. But nevertheless, are more intelligent and sure-footed. Unlike some horses, mules seldom kick rocks or logs or stumble. They eat less than a horse, live longer, and can carry more weight.

Mountain trails contain obstacles or stumbling blocks. Whether packing in with horse or mule, it may be necessary to remove the obstacles from the path we've chosen for them.
(Tom L)

Action Point
Let us not create stumbling blocks along our life's path or that of our brother--our friend. Anyone who influences another and causes them to sin is a stumbling block.
Jesus was tender toward the spiritually weak. Be careful that we are not judgmental toward our brothers and instead, make sure we set good examples in everything we do.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When packing horses or mules, it is critical that the weight is distributed evenly on each side of the pack animal.

Today's Photograph . . . . He Will Be There For You During Difficult and Stressful Times   (MQ)

Bible Study Verses
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (NIV)

Thoughts
One of my favorite lakes in the Wind River Range lies at 8,400 ft and is 2 1/2 mi from the 7,500 ft trail head. The trail is classified as difficult because of the 900 ft rise in 2 1/2 mi; is steep and rocky at times, then levels out in several places. It is impossible to pack in horses to the campsite; everything must be carried on your back.

Once you arrive at the campsite and remove your pack, you may begin the most rewarding and therapeutic float tube fishing you can imagine. This lake contains three species of fish--rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout. After three days of fishing and rest, you are ready to go back to that stressful schedule.
(Tom L)

Action Point
Just as a pack horse lessens our load, two oxen working together as a team make it easier for both of them. Jesus invites us to work with Him as a team, get into His yoke with Him; but goes on to say that He will shoulder the majority of the load.

The best way to work as a team with Jesus Christ is to invite Him into your heart. He will be there for you during difficult and stressful times.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When choosing a backpack, go to a trained person at a gear shop and get the backpack fitted to you.

Today's Photograph . . . . Be A Neighbor Wherever God Leads You   (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Luke 10:36-37
"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise." (NIV)

Thoughts
Tonight, I had a "Good Samaritan" opportunity and almost blew it . . .

I had gone for a walk--not an unusual thing for me to do, usually after dark, to keep in shape and make those mountains a little smaller. As I was walking, I noticed a homeless man dragging a handcart and carrying his things in a paper bag. He presented a typical sight: disheveled, tired, and looking for a safe place to spend the night.

I was on my way to the grounds of a nearby church where I attend services. There is an area for prayer in the back, a small hill and a cross, a good place to pray and listen to God. I slowly overtook the homeless man; and as I walked by, I spoke to him and he to me.

I kept going, but was compelled to turn around and go back to him. We spoke again and I walked with him for the next few blocks. He was from the area, spoke very eloquently, and had a firm handshake. When we drew near the church, he began to tell me the history of its structure and  its designer. We talked about the church, the community, and Jesus. He knew the church and asked me why the annual Christmas pageant had not been held the previous year.

As we parted, I assured him that I would pray for him; and he asked me to pray for healing for his wrist which had been injured in a fall. We stood in the street, I held his hand and prayed. It was a privilege!!! It was a blessing!!! We then parted, I to my house and he to his lonely spot on the street. As we went our separate ways, he thanked me for walking and talking with him.

I cannot remember the last time I had been so blessed, and I had almost walked on by.
(Cliff S)

Action Point
Be a neighbor whenever and to whomever God leads you.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
It's not a bad idea to have extra food, water, and some tools in your vehicle when going to the country. You never know; you just might meet someone who needs help--perhaps with a flat tire but without a jack, maybe with some other problem that you might help solve; or one just having a bad day and needs a "Good Samaritan" to listen to their story.

Today's Photograph . . . . By So Doing Some People Have Shown Hospitality To Angels Without Knowing It (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Hebrews 13:1-3
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.  (NIV)

Thoughts
It's usually fun to meet a stranger in the woods. You're both hunting, so you instantly have something in common, something to talk about. I met one of my best friends under such circumstances. God brought us together in the middle of the Arizona outback thirty years ago. We're still hunting together, and now our boys hunt together! What a blessing from God!

God can work in unusual ways to bring blessings to us. A few days ago something very different happened when I met a stranger. It was late afternoon and I was checking out of the local hardware store (almost as dangerous a place for me as the local Sportsman's Warehouse outdoors store) and I spoke to the check-out lady, called her by name, Natalia, the name on her nametag. She immediately looked up, smiled, and almost cried. Natalia told me that I was the first person all day who had called her by her name. She thanked me; and I thought, what if I hadn't extended that little act of courtesy and kindness? Natalia might have gone home that evening believing that nobody saw her or cared about her, and that would be tragic. Again, I was blessed, not for what I had done, but for the lesson that I had learned about paying attention to people around me. Who knows, maybe Natalia was an angel sent by God to see if I was really paying attention to those folks I see in my daily routines.
(Cliff S)

Action Point
Be observant of people around you, take note of them; be kind to them. They may have a special need that you can help meet, and by so doing have an opportunity to share Jesus with them.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
When you see somebody broke down in the woods, stop and offer assistance. It just might be a life-threatening situation.

Today's Photograph . . . . The Roles Have Been Reversed   (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
I Kings 2:1-3
"I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, act like a man,  and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to Him, and keep His decrees and commands, His laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go." (NIV)

Thoughts
When our sons were youngsters, my friend and I made sure that they were included in our trips to the mountains. We talked often about where to plan hunts in order for the boys to be able keep up with the men.

Well, guess what--it's a few years later; actually, many years later, and now our talk centers around planning trips in order for us old guys to keep up with the young bucks! A few trips back, this point was driven home in a subtle, yet profound, way.

My son and I were easing our way up a bluff through some rough stuff. He had gone up in front of me and, looking back and seeing me struggling with one large step, he extended a strong hand to help me up. I thanked him and he said I was welcome. Then he commented that he keeps a closer eye on me now to see if I need help and if I'm okay.

At first, the comment touched a little nerve; but, as I thought about it more, I laughed out loud and thanked God for how my son has matured--that he cares enough to look after the old man.

You see, the roles have been reversed. The young bull now leads the way for the old bull, and that's the way it's supposed to be. I'm just thankful that the Lord has seen fit for me to see my son grow into a man--a man of strength, a man of character, and a man who walks in God's ways!
(Cliff S)

Action Point
When my son was born, I asked God to allow me to live long enough to see him grow into a man. As his father, it was my responsibility to teach him about God, to read the Bible to him, to pray with him, and to lead him to the Lord.

Well, my son is a man and is living a life of responsibility, to God and to himself. God has answered my prayer. I hope that I have many more years of watching the young bull continue to grow; but I know that, whatever life may bring, he'll be okay because God leads his way.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
As often as possible, include your kids in your outdoor activities. Two tips: make sure that they have good shoes that fit properly; and that their sleeping bag will keep them warm at night. The trips will go much better if these two things are right.

Today's Photograph . . . .  It Is A Balance We Need To Undertake, The Ability To Sit And Abide In This World Without Tipping Over And Capsizing   (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
John 17:15-16
I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (NASB)

Thoughts
Recently I took up a new sport; kayaking. I was in a local class with about twenty-five other first time kayakers. As I scanned around the room I noticed that we ranged in age from fairly young people to retired couples.

As the class proceeded they warned us that some of us would probably capsize our kayaks when we first started. I remember thinking "maybe some of the older people, but certainly not me." Well my arrogance proved misguided when I first sat down in the kayak, floated about ten feet into the lake, and fell over. Not only was I going to capsize, but I was the first one in our group to do it!

I slowly walked my soaked and dripping body onto shore, with twenty five sets of eyes watching, I drained my kayak, and with assistance climbed back in. I then proceeded to paddle about fifty yards when I tipped over again. After falling over for the fifth time, I was quickly becoming the guy nobody wanted in their group.
(Brett M)

Action Point
Jesus was praying to God asking for protection from Satan for His disciples. He knew that His disciples were hated by the world because their very beliefs, the things they stood for and did not stand for, stood as accusations against the things the world did stand for.

Fast forward two thousand years and here we are in the world. But, striving not to be of the world. The very people who espouse tolerance are intolerant of our beliefs as Christians. For the very same reasons, our lives and beliefs stand as an accusation against what some find acceptable. It is a balance we need to undertake, the ability to sit and abide in this world without tipping over and capsizing.

Often I see these new bumper stickers that say "NOW: Not Of this World". When you see one stop and pray for Jesus' disciples (us) just as He did. Pray that our heavenly Father would protect us all from the evil one and give us the balance needed to be in the world, but not of this world.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Kayaks can be used in various ways. They can be fished from, used a transport vessel for a difficult hunting location, or maneuvered to cruise a lake, river, or ocean.

Bible Study Verses

Luke 15:4-6
"If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' (NLT)

Thoughts

Recently I wrote about the saddled pack mule my son and I came across while deer hunting and how the mule ran off in an attempt to herd up with a bull elk. This is the rest of the story. . .

The night after seeing the wayward mule, we spotted a couple of cowboys towing a horse trailer with saddled horses in the rear. Imagining the coincidence I approached them and asked if they had lost a pack mule. They said they had and that he was a pack mule from the Grand Canyon, he had been missing for four days, and they had been tracking him roughly forty miles from his original location. We gave them the last location we had seen him that morning and wished them luck.

The next morning we spotted illusive critter again grazing in an opening, alone, and roughly fifteen miles from where we had spotted him yesterday. Any and all attempts to wrangle the solitary mule were met with resistance. Noting his location we began to make our way back to the Grand Canyon to report his location to the cowboys. We had only driven one mile from his location when we came across the same two cowboys.

Action Point

I was amazed and impressed that these two cowboys had been able to successfully track this solitary mule for some fifty miles though all kinds of wilderness. Then the three different parables in Luke 15 came to mind, the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. Each with the same emphasis, God and Heaven will rejoice in the returning of just one lost soul.
Who is that lost soul? It can either be a lost sinner who has never known God or it can be a backslidden believer. In either case the point is made that like those cowboys, God will do all that He can to bring the sinner out of the treacherous wilderness and into the safety and security of His flock. To cause those of us who have backslidden to be called by His Holy Spirit and summoned by His Word to return to that same flock.
Do you or someone you know resemble the parables in Luke 15? If so, repent. receive God's forgiveness, and then enjoy the celebration in heaven!!!
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Game bags can be expensive and do not last. Buy the cheapest set of bed sheets you can find and wrap your harvest inside. They will accomplish the same thing at a fraction of the price and will last much longer.

Today's Photograph . . . . Bearing Abandonment   (MQ)
Bible Study Verse
Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.  (NIV)

Thoughts
The hunts were great and each an adventure, but not enough . . . The harvest was eaten and built health, but didn't preserve the life . . . What does one do when the love of his or her life, companion, hunting partner, best friend is gone . . .

"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly," Psalm 84:11, (NKJV). Dear God how can your word tell me "no good thing will You withhold" when you allowed?????  One never signs up for this!

"Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him," Job 13:15b (NKJV). OK, I've been slayed! You took, and now I am to trust you more? If you've never lost, your turn is coming. The statement that you don't know what you have til it is gone . . . rings loudly in the aftermath.

The abandonment comes in various nightmares . . . emotional  and appetite changes encouraging  drifting away through selfishness, adultery, divorce,  or death. Now what . . . ?
(JQ)

Action Point
The promise in Jeremiah can be trusted. Your choice, Your responsibility is to follow His leadership through your personal relationship. Lean on Him and trust as if your life depends on it - cause it does!!!

How does one trust . . . "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God," Romans 10:17 (NKJV). You got to be reading and soaking in His Holy Living Word, the Bible. The more you absorb, the easier to trust Him through knowing His precious promises.

Remember, you have not been forgotten. "Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand [the side not carrying a shield]. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore," Psalm 121: 4-8 (Amplified).

Hebrews 10:23-25 encourages, "Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near," (NLT). A church family is so needed and necessary. You don't have one, gotta let the Holy Spirit lead you to one.

I John 2:27 instructs, "But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don't need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what He teaches is true-it is not a lie. So just as He has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ," (NLT).

Seeking Him with your whole heart . . . easier said than done, but you must. He knows your every thought, every doubt. But, you must choose Him and follow Him with your WHOLE heart.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Many of us journal our hunts. Why not journal your prayer journey along with your hunts? My prayer journal has increased my faith in how God answers prayer over and over again. I just need to be reminded as I read back through the past. At first I used a waterproof notebook, which didn't last well. Now a bound book does well especially being hauled to the great outdoors in extreme weather and back to home and then to Bible study.

Today's Photograph . . . . We As Humans Are Also Very Resourceful And Adaptable  (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Ephesians 5:28-29
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church. (NIV)

Thoughts
Drought has been hitting Arizona for the last ten years now. Water tanks are dried up, reservoirs are low, and trees and wildlife are showing the effects.

Recently a wild fire moved through an area called Mingus Mountain in northern AZ. A friend of mine was the base camp manager for the forest service firefighters' camp. Near the camp on the main highway, which had been closed, was a large, portable water trough that the helicopters used to retrieve water in order to drop on the fire. As he approached the trough in the dimly lit morning he saw something unusual, a black mass near the trough. Blurry eyed and still a little sleepy he approached the trough and the black mass came into focus. It was actually two large bears standing on their rear feet with their front paws on the edge of the trough getting a much needed drink.
(Brett M)

Action Point
Wildlife is resourceful. When they are unable to meet their needs in the traditional ways, they adapt and change. We as humans are also very resourceful and adaptable. We have certain needs and we will typically make adaptations to meet those needs, often times in self-destructive ways.

Many of us are married and have made a vow to seek certain needs only from our spouses. Most commonly it is sex that we seek from our spouse. But what about the other needs that should only be found in our spouse. Men are you meeting all of the needs of your wives? Do you love her "as your own body?" Neither spouse should have to go to a wayward trough to seek what they need.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Old burned areas of the forest are great places to hunt. Increased sunlight and fresh vegetation are keys. Pay attention to your hunting area during wildfire season, note if and where an area may have burned and then scout that in future hunting trips.

Today's Photograph . . . . What We Say About Others Can Simmer And Suddenly Explode   (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
James 3: 9-11
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?  (NIV)

Thoughts
The best part of a camping trip is sitting around a campfire at the end of the day providing the only light in the camp.

They provide time for quiet reflection. It just seems like your mind becomes more attuned with nature around you. I can remember campfires after a day at the lake fishing. Nothing but the crackling of the burning wood and the deep throaty chorus of bull frogs talking to each other from the water's edge.

A campfire can bring a gathering to friends generating the warm atmosphere to encourage the swapping of tales about their latest outdoor adventures.

Kids are drawn like iron to a magnet. Get a bunch of kids together around a campfire and start telling stories. You have their attention for the night.

The body can be fed as well as the soul. Stick a hot dog on a stick; place a couple of marshmallows on a stick, roasted to perfection over the glowing embers, and you have a gastronomical delicacy!
(Tom B)

Action Point
Campfires, although a great balm of peace and fellowship for friends and kids, if left unattended, not properly built, and watched over, can bring disaster out of a peaceful setting. One small spark from a campfire into nearby brush or field can cause major damage to the surrounding nature.

The same with our talk. What we say about others can simmer and suddenly explode into a major conflagration hurting that person or the people around them. Don't get involved in gossip. The well worn advice, "If you can't say anything good about someone, then don't say anything at all," should govern our conversations as well as our spirits.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Keep campfires small. A good bed of coals or a small fire surrounded by rocks gives plenty of heat. Scrape away any burnable material within a 10-foot diameter circle. This will keep a small campfire from spreading.

Today's Photograph . . . . There Will Be Trials . . .  (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Hebrews 12:22-24
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in Heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. (NIV)

Thoughts
This past summer my wife and I visited our youngest son, Tim, his wife Charity, and our grandson in Colorado Springs. This was our first time to visit them in their new home.

They are avid hikers and love to get into the mountains, 10,000-14,000 ft. around their home. I like to hike, also. But, my hiking is confined to locales in Southeast Texas at 0-10 ft elevation.
One of things that they wanted to show us was a waterfall that wound its way down the side of a mountain that was about 14,000 ft. You could drive to about 10,000 ft, but the rest was following a winding trail to the top.

I think they could have ran to the top. But for me and my wife, it was stop, rest, and start again. The view was worth it, literally breath taking at the top.
(Tom B)

Action Point
Hebrews 12:22-24 paints a description of what Heaven is going to be like.

My wife's and my climb to the top of the mountain is similar to what we all face in our lives. There will be trials in our lives that will slow down our ascent to the mountain top (Heaven), making us feel like we can't go on.

Don't give up!!! Take a breather and gather your strength again. Remember who your trail guide is-Jesus. Remember what the view is going to be like when you reach the summit.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Hiking is all about being in shape. Actually, hiking can help a person get in shape. Don't try to tackle mountain trails if your life revolves around sea level locations. Start slow, building up strength and endurance. Take one to three mile walks three times a week to build endurance.

Today's Photograph . . . . They May Not Share Exactly Where They Caught The Lunker  (MQ)
Bible Study Verses
Deuteronomy 6:5-9
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gate. (NIV)

Thoughts
Most outdoors people are more than willing to talk about their latest trip, discuss the pros and cons of the latest fishing or hunting equipment they have used, or the latest magazine article or TV show they have seen on their favorite sport. I knew a young man that would spend hours on the telephone talking to buddies about his latest trip afield or afloat. Even the professional anglers and guides love to talk about their latest catches. They may not share exactly where they caught the lunker, but they will gladly share the rest of the information.

We are passionate about our sport and not bashful about sharing information.
(Tom B)

Action Point
Moses was pretty passionate about his love for the Lord, spreading information to whoever would listen or had eyes to see, "Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

Anglers and hunters proudly wear fishing and hunting equipment patches upon their shirts and jackets. You will find a line of folks waiting to receive a free hat or T- shirt if they know that a displayer at an outdoor show is giving them away. Our trucks and cars display the outdoor organization decal that we support.

How about the same zeal for the Lord? Talk openly with others about what the Lord is doing in your life. Who knows, they may be going through the same thing.

How many people call their friends and spend time on the phone talking about what the preacher or minister said on Sunday morning? The Sunday sermon isn't relegated to one day.

There are more and more Christian youth fishing and hunting organizations forming across the US. Get involved with one. They are great avenues for communication with youth, and they are fun. Start one within your own church.

Don't be bashful in talking with your own children about some of the "tuff" topics of growing up. Bring in how God can be part of the situation. Share your own life as you grew up. Your kids can see that mom or dad is really "real". Get passionate about what you believe in-the saving love and grace of Jesus Christ!
