Bible Study Verse
Judges 16:6
So Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued." (NIV)

Thoughts
Calling in a big tom turkey is a very unnatural act. Most of the time, the hens come to the toms for courtship. That's one of the reasons why they gobble.

Most seasoned turkey hunters know that if there are live hens around, working your turkey calls is just a waste of time. If you are really going after that big trophy bird this Spring, it's better to:
  • Limit your calling early in the season.
  • Scout hard to learn the big tom's patterns.
  • Be more aggressive with the calling the last part of the season.
You've got to coax that big tom to go looking for love in all the wrong places for success.

Action Point
Some of us who are middle-aged, single, Christian men need to keep in mind the story of Samson and Delilah. While we may desire the company of the fairer sex, we must ensure that we aren't coaxed into the wrong call, as we get the ol' tom's to do sometimes.

Trust in God, and everything else will fall into place.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day
Scouting is the most important aspect to turkey hunting. The biggest advantages you can have over the birds are knowing:
  • Where they are going to go roost.
  • Where they hang out in the day.
  • When they are strutting.
